A Statement of Solidarity

The Seth Lewelling PTO Board stands in solidarity with our BIPOC community and all of those who are protesting to insist upon change. We commit to working against racism and exclusion of all kinds.

Our mission is to foster an environment that enables parents and school personnel to work together in meaningful and supportive ways, to enhance and improve the quality of the educational experience for students, families, and staff. Fostering such an environment demands equity, inclusion and the dismantling of systemic racism.

Each and every student deserves a safe environment in which to learn and thrive.

We ask our school community to Listen, Learn, and Advocate. True love needs movement.

For those of us who are white, it’s important to first educate ourselves. There are many great resources available:

  1. How to be Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi
  2. White Fragility by Robin Diangelo
  3. Me and White Supremacy by Layla F. Saad

Creating a future where all are treated with dignity and equality continues with educating our children. Great resources for talking with our kids about race are:

We imagine a world where our children can walk out the front door without fear of who they are and what look like. Imagine a world of kindness and respect. It starts with all of us.
